Power system:
Solar–SOC Last 24 hours: Max 100% Min 34 % Avg 55.6%. Solar experienced overload on April 6th by excess input power from the Sun. This was noticed by the Crew engineer during work on her project in the ScienceDom. She heard a loud noise and saw a bright flash from one of the battery chargers. The charger went in P05 – Power Limited (Above Voltage Regulation) mode. After consultations with Dr. Rupert, the system was restarted, but it did not change anything. Later during the day Inverters went offline four times in a row without obvious reason and no fault signals. A decision was made to turn on the generator around 7pm to let inverters rest without load. Inverters were restarted next morning and are functioning properly by this moment.
Power System Notes: Generator run time about 11:30pm – 7am. Was not used on April 1st, and from 7pm – 7am on April 6. Hours – 3639.7.

Static tank pipe heater (on or off): off
Static tank heater (On or off): off
Toilet tank emptied: no
Summary of internet: used from 14:00 to 21:00 for experiments and reports
Summary of suits and radios:
EVA crew reported a bit of fog forming in suit number 8 during EVA, not enough for the EVA to be dangerous or to be aborted. After testing, we noticed the suit ventilator’s airflow becomes less strong more rapidly than the others. The voltage of the battery also goes down quicker than the other two suits (suit type: helmet and suit combined type). The problem does not seem to be severe as the ventilator still works and clears the fog out but in a less optimal way than others. We suspect the battery is losing its condition. We will opt for other suits on the next EVA awaiting a repair on this one.
Radios charging nominal. Headset number 5 was replaced and labeled. It was tested and worked nominal, ready to use for the next EVA. Malfunctioning headset is in the RAM.
Summary of GreenHab operations:
WATER USE: 12.6
Heater: Off

Summary of ScienceDome operations: extremophiles were put in culture again because of contamination. EVA communication training. 3D printer reconstruction.
Dual split: Heat or AC, Off
Summary of RAM operations: no activity
Summary of any observatory issues: see above + cloudy weather and high winds so cupola was not opened
Summary of health and safety issues: none
Questions, concerns and requests to Mission Support:
A smell was detected on the lower deck. We located the smell coming from above the airlock that leads to the other parts of the station. We checked to see if the smell was coming from gas with the gas detector but the gas detector did not detect anything. We then tried touching and observing to see if there were any burnt cables or plastic caused eventually by a short circuit. After that, we called Mission Support who responded that this smell could occur, coming from the exhaust of the water heater when there are high winds.

Static tank pipe heater (on or off): off
Static tank heater (On or off): off
Toilet tank emptied: no
Summary of internet: used from 14:00 to 21:00 for experiments and reports
Summary of suits and radios:
Suits nominal, charging nominal. Radios nominal but technical problem with headset number 5. I think the problem is in the cable of the microphone. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. From other radios, we can always hear that radio number 5 is transmitting something (with the click sound of a walkie talkie), but often you cannot hear the person at all. Which leads us to think the problem is not with the radio itself. We also tried changing headsets with radio number 5, and there is no problem. So the problem must be in the headset, and because sometimes it works and sometimes not, I suppose it’s a cable problem.
We noticed this problem at the beginning of the EVA in the airlock. We aborted the decompression and resolved the problem before decompressing again and going outside. Augustin (who was wearing the headset in question) is a very quiet person, he did not talk much during the EVA, that is why we noticed the problem only when he tried to communicate the rover numbers to Hab at the end of the EVA when we were about to enter the Hab.
Solution: The problem does not look like it could be resolved apart from replacing the cable or the headset entirely. When radio number 5 has to go out on EVA, we will give him another headset to use.
Summary of GreenHab operations:
WATER USE: 13.4 gallons
Heater: Off
Supplemental light: Off
Harvest: cherry tomatoes 217 g, Basilic 4g, Mint 3g, Sage 0.5g
Summary of ScienceDome operations: extremophiles were put in cultures and incubated overnight. Arduino was programmed for pressure, altitude, temperature and humidity for a weather balloon.
Dual split: Heat or AC, Off
Summary of RAM operations: Assembly of 3D printer. Knobs on the oven were complicated to use so we worked a little bit on them and they work better now.
Summary of any observatory issues: see above
Summary of health and safety issues: Hole in the tunnel in front of the Science Dome because of wind gusts. Commander was blocked in there during repairs. Repairs were made by Sergii, everything nominal now.
Questions, concerns and requests to Mission Support:
Concerning water use, the water tank was filled today to 520 gallons during the day, and I measured the water level at the end of the day but not before the fill.

HabCar used and why, where? Yes. To town and also by the crew, tonight it was hooked up to the trailer as tomorrow the dump is open, but the battery died so it is currently charging overnight. This is the second time the battery has died after it has been started and operating, so we don’t know what’s going on at this time.

Crew Car used and why, where? Yes. To town and also by the crew. This crew will be taking it back to GJ tomorrow so that the next crew will be able to pick it up.
Luna Used and why, where? I will be taking Luna back to WA with me tomorrow.

General notes and comments: Crew 276 has set up their new “Thunderdome” in the same area as last year. We moved the student camp from the previous spot south and east of the station to a more protected site north of the Hab, just off Hab Ridge on the flat. Things have gone smoothly.

Dual Split in Science Dome: off due to warmer weather.

Summary of Internet: Nominal

Summary of suits and radios: nothing to report

EVA COMMS: Used by faculty to communicate with each other and also with on site personnel

Campus wide inspection, if action taken, what and why: nothing to report

Summary of General Operations: Crew 276 on site has about 27 faculty and students in simi-sim. Correction from last week—the rovers were not serviced as reported.

Summary of Hab operations: Nominal

Summary of GreenHab Operations: I completed the overhaul of the GreenHab today. About 1/3 of the tomatoes were removed and the remaining are still producing. After this next crew, the tomatoes in the herb garden should be removed. I removed the beans as they were no longer producing. I set up the red wagon to remix soil for the end of the season.

On Tuesday, I harvested 593 g of tomatoes. Tonight I asked any of the crew who were interested to go harvest what was ripe, an estimate of another 500 g.

I lowered the thermostat to 55 and it is fine to be set there for the remainder of the season. I also suggest the door stay open on days where it is above 55 and the wind is not high.

There is a rodent in one of the greens beds. It seems to like beet greens. We will be setting a life trap for this little beet fiend tomorrow. It may be the same visitor that has been running over people in the Hab.

Summary of SciDome Operations: The leaks from the windowsill are getting worse and the black mold on the inside of the dome continues to grow. We will be looking at it as soon as things dry out from the constant battle between winter and spring as to what season it actually is.

Summary of any Observatory Issues: Photos taken of the twisted belt and sent to the Robotic Observatory dome company

Summary of RAM Operations: Nothing to report

Summary of Outpost Operations: I moved out of my trailer today. Most traces of my existence here have been packed and loaded into the van (except my rocks—I’m going to need to pick them up in May). Mostly empty now, the trailer reminds me of the day I first saw it and knew instantly it was the one to be my home. I paid for it with money my grandmother had left me, and I’ve donated it to TMS. My grandmother would have been confused, but supportive. It’s been a safe and cozy little home for me here. Both trailers also have new tabs.
