Operations Report – April 18th

Crew 297 Operations Report 18-04-2024

SOL: 4

Name of person filing report: Matt Lynch (Engineer)

Non-nominal systems: Suit 2 (stuck valve), Suit 9 (broken visor), Radio 2 (likely damaged antenna)

Notes on non-nominal systems: The issues with Suit 2 and 9 were already noted before our mission. The issue with Suit 4 was fixed today. Fixes were attempted with Suit 2, however the two valve components are extremely stuck together. We propose drilling/sawing out the jammed valve, this will destroy the stuck component, but enable us to salvage the remaining pieces and return Suit 2 to functional operation. See below for specifics on Radio 2.

ROVERS

Spirit rover used:

Hours: 251.6

Beginning charge: 100%

Ending charge: 61%

Operations Report – April 19th

Crew 297 Operations Report 19-04-2024

SOL: 5

Name of person filing report: Matt Lynch (Engineer)

Non-nominal systems: Suit 2 (stuck valve), Suit 9 (broken visor), Radio 2 (possibly damaged antenna), Suit 11 (poor battery life),

Notes on non-nominal systems: The issues with Suit 2 and 9 were already noted before our mission. Suit 2 repairs are ongoing. The problem with Radio 2 has been determined to likely be its headset, we are asking for a replacement. Suit 11’s battery was checked before EVA #7 today and was at 13.5 V (fully charged), yet the fans had a noticeable drop in speed by the second half of the EVA. Ultimately resulting in aborting the EVA early for health concerns. Testing the suit immediately after the EVA the voltage was 11.9 V, below the critical value of 12V. This suggested that the batteries have degraded to the point of not being capable of holding a considerable amount of charge to safely perform an EVA longer than 45 minutes.

ROVERS

SOL: 11
Name of person filing report: Louis Joseph
Non-nominal systems: Suit 5 (battery connection), Suit 2 (stuck valve) and Suit 9 (broken visor)
Notes on non-nominal systems: Suit 5 was once more inspected inside the RAM. Louis (Engineer) and Hippolyte (GreenHab Officer) diagnosed the issue. It seems like there is a short-circuit at one of the ventilation’s connections (see linked pictures). The two wires connections are touching in some cases, causing the suit and the ventilation to shut down. A repair would require to re-solder this connection.

He only used markers, green duct tape (both brought to the MDRS) and a pair of scissors from the RAM. Tools from the RAM were also used to replace missing tennis balls and zip-ties along the corridors of the station. A total of 13 new zip-ties and 1 tennis ball were added to secure the stakes and the cover of the corridors of the station.
