Summary of Hab operations: The toilet flush is not functioning and
there is about an inch of waste stuck to the bottom of the tank that
we have not been able to flush away. In the past 24 hours, we have
flushed the toilet about 4 times (by filling buckets in the shower and
emptying it into the toilet), to no avail. Flushing the toilet for
individual use with a little bucket has not been too rough, so we can
make it work till the end of our rotation, after which a new toilet
will be installed.

We were in power conservation mode today due to cloud cover limiting
the available solar power.

WATER USE:

Water (static tank): approx. 100-150 gallons after all that flushing!
Water (loft tank): 21 gallons
Water Meter: 01542759 units

gallons this afternoon.

Non-nominal systems:

1. Suits and radios — the suit issue reported on yesterday’s report persists.

Notes on non-nominal systems: The backpack was opened and the voltage
across the battery leads was checked with a multimeter, yielding 11.48
V. Since this is not too far from the ideal value of 12 V, the issue
may not be with the battery. When the air was turned on to max, one of
the fans did not turn at all, while the second fan spun very slowly.
Nothing appeared to be burned or abnormal.

2. Toilet — the leaking issue persists when the water valve isn’t turned off.
Today, we attempted to fix the leak by reapplying Teflon tape to the
threading on the fittings near the leak spot. Then, we proceeded to
tighten the fittings once more and then we turned on the water valve.
After about an hour, the leak started once more, though now it is
dripping from a different spot. While the water was initially coming
out just behind the black fitting (shown in with the blue arrow in the
attached photo), now it is coming out where the black arrow is.

Today, the fan on one of the suits slowed down considerably about two hours into the EVA, causing the crew member’s helmet to fog up. Notes on rovers: Percy was rolled onto its driver’s side on Saturday at Robert’s Rock Garden. A tow company was called to upright it and a damaged rim was fixed enough for us to get the rover back to the station. Current assessed damage is the front driver’s tire rim, which will need to be replaced, and structural damage to the plastic outer parts. There may be some readjustment required for the bed. The batteries and “engine” appear fine, the brakes and gears are operational and it drives normally. Further assessment will be done in the next few days and any other damage will be reported in our next report. Percy has been removed from the station and is at the Outpost pending repairs.

Reason for Report: Routine

Non-nominal systems: One of the charge controllers appears to have frozen on ABSORB setting. I noticed it yesterday and confirmed it today.

Action taken for non-nominal systems: I was not able to reset it so I will equalize it tomorrow. I didn’t want to do anything to change the system until I tried to autostart one more time and equalizing it requires that charge controller to shut down and restart.

Generator: The power system is giving me no love. For three nights I’ve set the generator to autostart and it has not. I’m giving it one more chance before I give up and run it manually. The good news is that now that the propane installation had been corrected, I can do that if I need to. I reprogrammed everything back to use SOC as the parameter for the autostart and let’s see what happens tonight. If this doesn’t work, I’m going with Occam’s Razer and assuming the problem is in the power system’s wiring, as this is the second generator that won’t autostart. But we would need to wait until spring to resolve that as our installer is out of the country. I’ve been fighting this how many years now?
