Summary Title: Cleaning, gathering food, and two happy crews meet

Mission Status: Transitioning the habitat from Crew 200 to Crew 201.

Sol Activity Summary: One crew 200 members drove to Grand Junction this morning to pick up Crew 201! Two members from crew 200 remained in the habitat and thoroughly cleaned. Crew 200 welcomed and oriented Crew 201 and also helped them gather new food from Hanksville. A lot of delicious, dehydrated food! Both crews will enjoy dinner together tonight!

Look Ahead Plan: Crew 200 will leave for Grand Junction tomorrow and Crew 201 will eagerly begin their mission!

General notes and comments: we cleaned the station for checkout, while Antoine went picking up the next crew in Grand Junction. Crew 200 welcomed and trained crew 201.

Narrative:
The high measurement was still 50 today, but since I wasn’t at the
greenhab at the highest time in the day.

Support/Supplies Needed:
Was there suppose to be a weight in the GreenHab? If so, I cannot find
it and have to go to the Science Dome to get the mass of the harvest.
GreenHab is a great place to work, it has alot of potential. With
added sensors and automated suns shades, the Hab GreenHab can become
closer to the type of system we’d want on Mars!

Summary Title: Driving to the moons and cleaning the habitat

Mission Status: Simulation ended at 1:00PM today. All crew members
happy and healthy.

Sol Activity Summary: We spent much of the morning finishing our
reports about this week. Each day, we have been documenting our
observations of the dynamics of a 3 member crew. Today, we summarized
it over a decadent dessert. One crew member made cinnamon chocolate
cake by modifying “Kyle’s Carrot Cake”, a recipe in the habitat
cookbook “Mars Home Cooking: Recipes from the Mars Desert Research
Station”. After we discontinued our simulation as planned, we drove
two rovers to an array of “moons” north of the habitat. White Moon.
Beige Moon. Yellow Moon. Gray Moon.

Look Ahead Plan: Tonight and tomorrow, we will be thoroughly cleaning
the habitat and its surrounding buildings. Tomorrow, we will also
drive to Hanksville to pick up the next crew and drive them to MDRS.
We will introduce the MDRS to them and have discussions with them
about the rules and expectations of conducting missions here.

General notes and comments: after working on our projects this morning, we left sim at noon, spent the afternoon riding/hiking in the north and came back at 4pm to clean the science dome floor, Hab floor and the RAM.

EVA Report – December 13th

Crew 200 EVA Report 12-13-2018

EVA #6

Purpose of EVA: 1) Map out locations that allow radio communication
between EVA crew and HabCom around Phobos Peak 2) Test how EVAs can
safely and effectively be conducted with three-member crew, including
rover use.

Start time: 14:12

End time: 16:00

Narrative: With media guests visiting the habitat today, our EVA was
pushed back in time, which was authorized by Shannon. We continued our
communication and radio strength and connectivity testing protocol
today. Our EVA began with an engineering check. We then used
Opportunity to drive north on Cow Dung Road. We intended to stop at
the west end of Stream Bed Connector, but we inadvertently stopped at
the east end of Galileo Road 1104, which we walked along for almost
its entirety. Through our GPS system and our communications with
HabCom, we realized we were probably on Galileo Road 1104 and so we
returned back to the west end of it. We then continued driving
Opportunity northward. We intended to explore areas about 1 kilometer
north of Reservoir Dam, but by the time we were 0.2 kilometers north
of Reservoir Dam, we had lost connectivity with HabCom for several
consecutive radio tests. This lack of connectivity continued even when
we parked the rover and stood on higher points. We decided to return
driving south, communicating with HabCom throughout the return,
sometimes having to park the rover and stand on higher points.
Arriving back at the habitat about fifteen minutes early, we explored
the hills on the west side of the habitat, still following our
communication and radio strength and connectivity testing protocol. We
are excited to report that the battery usage on Opportunity was much
more efficient than it has been lately.

Narrative:
The weird 54 C reading was a trick of the light, literally! I moved it
closer to the center of the hab, away from direct sun. I also tested
with an analog thermometer.

NONE

Support/Supplies Needed:
It would be interesting to sees the O2 ans CO2 levels throughout the
day. It would be an important measure to have on Mars! If you can, I’d
love suggestions for sensors.

Sol Summary – December 13th

Summary Title: The first 3 crew EVA on Mars

Mission Status: Crew conducted an EVA to the North of Stream Bed connector.

Sol Activity Summary: Crew worked on projects in the morning, waiting
to go on EVA after a visit

from guests. We enjoyed home-made bread from Antoine throughout the
day. We made the decision to

end out sim tomorrow, which mean we are wrapping up our projects and
making grand last meals.

Look Ahead Plan: Tomorrow we will wrap up our projects and end
simulation after lunch.

Weather: Cold, but drier overall.

EVA: EVA Crew went by Rover to Galileo road, and then just past
Reservoir Dam to investigate

comms capability.
