MDRS ROBOTIC OBSERVATORY

Robotic Telescope Requested: Montana Learning Center

Objects Viewed: 104P Kowal, C 2019 L3 ATLAS

Problems Encountered: The observations of the two comets listed above were performed most likely with a partially cloudy sky therefore the pictures are not very clear.

I attach the remaining four observations (in the following order: Ceres_220108, IC1805_220108, 104PKowal_220112, C2019L3ATLAS_220112). These were composed out of 4 exposure files (Red, Green, Blue, Lum) without calibration. I aim to work on these after returning from the mission.

These are all observations I was ought to conduct during Crew 238 shift. The Astronomy Laptop will be placed downstairs in the Hab.

MDRS ROBOTIC OBSERVATORY
Robotic Telescope Requested: Montana Learning Center
Objects Viewed: 104P Kowal, C 2019 L3 ATLAS

Problems Encountered: The observations of the two above listed comets were unsuccessful, most likely due to the cloudy weather. Both observations are resubmitted for tonight.

I’m attaching the images of the first four observations (in this order: Horse Head, Messier51, Messier101, Soul Nebula). Each one is made of the four exposure files (Red, Green, Blue, Lum) and the three calibration files (mflat). That might be influencing the quality of the images which at the moment is quite low.

MDRS ROBOTIC OBSERVATORY
Robotic Telescope Requested: Montana Learning Center
Objects Viewed: IC 1848, IC 1805, Ceres
Problems Encountered: I’m working now on the final images of all the observed objects using Astronomy Laptop. I encountered a problem with the calibration of the images though. Question: do I need to download calibration files for each observation separately or some observations will have the same files? I’m asking about that in order to save the bandwidth whenever possible.
I also wonder, is it possible to observe comets, like Leonard or Bernardinelli-Bornstein, with requested telescope? I can’t find them via the Skynet search.

MDRS ROBOTIC OBSERVATORY

Robotic Telescope Requested: Montana Learning Center

Objects Viewed: M 101

Problems Encountered: The night before, I stayed up late to download between 2 am and 6 am the FITS files using Hab internet. It turned out to be not a very good idea: I was neither well-rested the next day, neither I managed to download all the needed files. If an astronomy laptop is not available I can use my own computer. In such a case: should I use for the download of the files the observatory internet? If so I would like to request access to it.

MDRS ROBOTIC OBSERVATORY
Robotic Telescope Requested: Montana Learning Center
Objects Viewed: M 51, IC 434
Problems Encountered: The first successful pictures of the Horsehead Nebula and Messier 51 are taken. There is a problem with the access to the astronomy laptop though. It wasn’t found downstairs in the hab. It might be in the observatory but I don’t have an access to it. The laptop is crucial to proceed with stacking of the images and color imaging.
