Summary: Today was another uneventful day telescope-wise. The clouds obstructed the Sun all day and the observations set for the MDRS-14 were not taken and are still shown as active. Maybe Skynet reports them because of the bad weather?
Please find attached the remaining photo. Let me know if you need any other photos.
I wanted to at least go through the opening and closing procedure of the Musk Solar Observatory but due to the rain, I cancelled the plan.

GreenHab Report March 29th

Crew 227 GreenHab Report 29th March 2022
SOL: 2
Name of person filing report: Cheyenne Chamart

GreenHab Officer: Cheyenne Chamart
Environmental control:
Average temperatures: 74,18 F
Hours of supplemental light: N/A
Daily water usage for crops: N/A
Daily water usage for research and/or other purposes: N/A
Water in Blue Tank (full – not used) gallons
Time(s) of watering for crops: N/A
Changes to crops: N/A
Narrative: I have used the GreenHab and its tools to prepare my little seeding pots for my own experiment. Only 30 will stay in the GreenHab during our mission, others (60) will be placed in different places of the station. The pots are independent of the installations in the GreenHab, that I will leave like this, to respect the official closure of it.
During midday when the temperature hit 80F and more, I turned on the fan. Sometimes I opened the door, when closing the fan, to keep a good temperature of the environment.
Tonight marks the beginning of my experiment, I will then turn on the GreenHab lights during the night hours.
Harvest: N/A
Support/supplies needed:
1) I don’t know if I need to use the water of the bluer water tank, due to the official closure of the GreenHab ? For this night I will use our own water but let me know which one I have to use for tomorrow.
2) Can you tell me what is the sunset and sunrise hour so I can calibrate the timer?

Stormy Day

Good evening dear Earthlings ! Here are the pioneers of Mars.

Last night the atmosphere was wild, so much conversation was going on. We were discussing the organization, our discoveries, our feelings, our needs, in short our new life that has just begun. With all this talk, we were so excited about exploring that we decided to visit a big canyon that we could see on a map made by our predecessors but not yet visited by man ; so we would be the first to walk in this place !!!! Wow you understood it is a super motivating activity!

We then let ourselves be manipulated by the agile hands of Julien to put a polysomnograph on us which analyzes our sleep. Cyril, me, Cheyenne and Ignacio are his "funny guinea pigs" because we look like sausages every night because of a net that we have to put on our head to hold the electrodes. The only thing that woke us up in the middle of the night is the bread machine after judgment, its sentence is to send it to the science dome for sure.

However, with our big dreams of exploration we perhaps forgot the fact that the wind was always present and that this morning by waking up big clouds full of water were waiting for us… Moreover our weather forecast reminded us that going out in EVA was a false good idea because of the risks of showers…
No problem, we are going to go ahead with our planning and to advance in the experiments to realize in the station.

So after a good breakfast in my way, Julie trained us for the theoretical and practical parts on her enriching experience which consists in teaching us how to put an external fixator on an open fracture of the tibia bone.

After putting on a scarf, we were divided into teams of two to play matches between teams to evaluate our speed of learning. In the afternoon the first match started with the team "others" Sirga-Jean against the team "anatomy" Audrey-Julien then Sirga-Jean against Cyril-Ignacio (team "mechanics").

To make a long story short, repairing an open bill on a leg requires good muscular arms, it’s crazy how muscles have strength even on a synthetic leg. I won’t tell you what a mess it was, but in any case, the patients finally died… Oops, it’s not today that we’ll be able to save our astronaut friends in space. Fortunately we have two weeks on Mars to learn and Julie is in great shape to keep us alive in case of problems.

Before his game Cyril calibrated his radar to be able to use it during the next EVAs with his antenna that he put on the Spirit rover yesterday.
Ignacio started to repair some broken objects with his 3D printer, a guaranteed quality part.

On his side Cheyenne spent all day among his plants to put them in pots and start to observe their growths in Martian substrate collected yesterday too.
As I write this I am listening to Troubleman by Electric Guest which makes me think of all the things we are learning, especially through our mistakes and the fact that our morale is at its highest to continue to discover this world.

I would like to mention a detail that happened during the last surgery match : A storm passed over our Hab and the landscape was completely transformed!
It was a mixture of an almost black and threatening sky streaked by lightning and buzzing with thunder, then the sun came to caress the mountains giving them a peaceful face while the storm continued to growl, a strange mixture…
Good news tomorrow it is the good one ! We leave in expedition (except if the storm and the wind decide to turn back). We shall go to deposit the bacteria of Audrey in the desert then we shall go to explore youhouuu!
We can wait for tomorrow and our day filled with sensations calms down little by little. Tonight the bread machine leaves us and that’s better! We will be very happy to be just in the company of our polysomnographers.

See you soon for the continuation of our great epic!

Sol Summary March 29th

Crew 227 Commander Report 29th March 2022

SOL: 2

Name of person filing report: Cyril Wain

Today was our first complete day without any contact with the external world. We can say that the simulation really started today.

We all woke up around 07h30 and we had breakfast at 08h00.
Ignacio, Sirga, Cheyenne and I did our first night with the polysomnographs. None of us have been bothered by it during the night, however removing all the sensors in our hairs and faces was a bit less fun. On the other side, the first results are already quite impressive!

This breakfast (8h00-8h45) was part of the experiment of Sirga. For a part of the team, it was not so easy but, at the end, everyone played the game without any questions. I am very proud of the crew for that point, each crew member is participating in all the different experiments with real interest and implication. During that breakfast, we also participated in the experiment of Jean which is taking some samples to get a look to the variations in our metabolism.
Finally, it is at that time that we were told that the EVA of the day was cancelled due to the bad weather. The team was a bit disappointed but took this information with a lot of professionalism.

Between 10h00 and 12h00, except Cheyenne who was performing some work for her experiment, we all participated in the experiment of Julie. First, we did the learning session and then Julie did a demonstration. The goal of this experiment is to allow anyone (not a medic) to be able to repair a broken leg (of a crew member that was hurt on EVA for example) with an innovative device. Now that we all have been formed, Julie will prepare some critical situations in which some of us will be asked to repair a fake leg. Everyone seems really excited by this experiment!

Between 12h20 and 13h20 we had lunch time. Today, it was soup with homemade bread that Julien did during the night. The bread was so good! I have to say that now we are all happy with not so much regarding food.

After lunch, Julie already simulated a critical situation: Julien, Audrey, Jean and Sirga were involved. At the same time, Ignacio and I worked on our experiments.

Around 16h00, we all worked on our reports.

Between 17h00 and 18h00 we did a second experiment with Julien but this time with Ignacio, Jean, Sirga and I. While we were doing this, Cheyenne continued her experiment in the greenlab. Julien and Audrey monitored our pictures.

Regarding the station, everything is functional.
We are just missing some trash bags and 2 of the 4 hot plates have damaged buttons. Ignacio is working to print a solution with the 3D printer.

Regarding the weather, the wind was less strong that yesterday, but we had some rain in the morning.

The team is really motivated and conscient of the opportunity they have while performing this simulation. All the experiments are starting as expected and we can expect to get amazing results if we keep that trend. The mood in the team couldn’t be better for now. We are all looking for tomorrow to perform our second real EVA.

This is it for today.
