Changes to crops: Fixed cucumber plants, replanted the brocolli/radish plants in bigger pots. Also harvested lettuce, basil, arugula, cilantro, and parsley!
Narrative:
Sol 0: Went in the greenhouse at about 3pm and watered all plants using a total of 1 gallon and 4 liters. I was able to aerate the soils of the tomato plants. The greenhouse was VERY warm with a temperature at 93 degrees Fahrenheit and there was only 10% humidity! Optimal humidity should be close to 40%-60% for temperate plants that are growing vegetables. After watering, I turned on the fan for 15 minutes to reduce the temperature to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. I was able to put sticks in the cucumber plants to help them stand up and grow better with the space. The humidity level also increased to 13%. For today, the only plants we harvested was the basil and lettuce. We used the basil for the quick Jambalaya we made for lunch while the rest of the crew was out fixing the car rentals and we used lettuce (18 grams) for the black bean burgers at dinner. After dinner, I was able to go back into the greenhouse at 10pm and check on the rest of the plants once again. The temperature was 71 degrees Fahrenheit with 10% humidity.
Sol 1: I went to the greenhouse today at 2:38pm and noted a temperature of 89 degrees Fahrenheit at 10% humidity. After watering with about 2.1 gallons of water, the humidity levels went up to 17%. I used up most of the time replanting the radish and broccoli plants. Especially for the broccoli and radish, the pots were becoming small for the roots, so I put them in a bigger pot to aerate the soil and make it comfy! At about 3:40pm, I harvested about 95 grams of kale for the pasta salad that we made for lunch! After lunch, I noticed that there was no spinach planted in the greenhouse, so I used the seeds I brought to set up a new pot! I put about 2-3 seeds in the 8 holes that I made. After that, I rearranged and properly fertilized the carrot plants with the MiracleGro Plant Food (1½ tablespoon) and a sprinkle of Jobes Organic Fast Start Fertilizer.
Harvest:
Sol 0:
Lettuce: 18 grams
Sol 1:
Kale: 95 grams
Parsley: 4 grams
Arugula: 12 grams
Support/supplies needed: Need humidifier in greenhouse??

Narrative: I watered a couple of the cucumber plants and tomato plants today around 12 pm. I also harvested some basil. I went back to the GreenHab around 6 pm to finish watering the rest of the plants and harvest some more plants. I harvested a fair amount of cilantro and dill this time around. The peas I planted earlier this week are doing well and growing fast, and I also saw some fennel shoots poking up. Cucumber plants are doing well and are almost fully recovered now.

GreenHab Report – December 18th

Environmental control: (heater, fan, door open?)
Average temperatures: 75 deg, up to 85 at peak
Hours of supplemental light: 10 pm to 2 am (four hours)
Daily water usage for crops: 2 gallons
Daily water usage for research and/or other purposes:
Water in Blue Tank (200 gallon capacity): __155.5__ gallons
Time(s) of watering for crops: 6 pm
Changes to crops: Harvested some crops, all crops growing well.
Narrative: I used a lot less water today because I am letting the soil of the cucumbers and the tomatoes dry out before watering again (there is still a lot of moisture in the soil). I harvested enough plants today to make a medium salad and provide toppings for our burger night. The peas are growing exceptionally well (both pre-planted and the ones I just planted). Hopefully we’ll also see some tomatoes growing by the end of the week too. I am still watching two of the cucumbers, which seem to be doing slightly better today but are not growing all that well currently. I suspect I might have given them too much fertilizer and that they are still recovering from that (fertilizer burns).
Harvest: Kale: 77 grams Lettuce: 11 grams Red Cabbage: 11 grams Arugula: 3 grams
Support/supplies needed: None.
GreenHab Report – December 19th

Crew 288 GreenHab Report 17-12-2023
GreenHab Officer: Ryan DeAngelis
Environmental control: Fan on for 1 hour. Heater on. Door kept closed.
Average temperatures: 75-80 degrees
Hours of supplemental light: 10 pm to 2 am
Daily water usage for crops: 7.5

Water in Blue Tank (200 gallon capacity): ___157.5__ gallons
Time(s) of watering for crops: 10 pm (last night), 11 am today
Changes to crops: Trimmed some plants, put tomatoes in cages.
Narrative: Today I did a lot of work in the GreenHab. I started off by checking on the plants in the morning, including watering them. I noticed that the peas are finally shooting up (yay!!!) after planting them three days ago. I harvested some basil for Cesare’s dish of fresh baked ziti for lunch. The cucumbers looked a lot better today, as they had perked up overnight. Lipi helped me put all the tomatoes in cages to encourage their upward growth and support their limbs. Hopefully we’ll see some tomatoes soon! Everything else looked really good.
Harvest: Basil: 4 grams
Support/supplies needed: None!
GreenHab Report – December 13th
GreenHab Officer: Ryan DeAngelis
Environmental control: Heater on automatically. Turned fan on for 10 minutes around 4:50. Supplemental lights on, attempted to adjust the timing to 10 pm to 2 am. Door closed.
Average temperatures: 70 degrees Fahrenheit
Hours of supplemental light: 3.5 hours, possibly 4 hours tonight.
Daily water usage for crops: 4 gallons
Daily water usage for research and/or other purposes: None
Water in Blue Tank (200 gallon capacity): __176.5__ gallons
Time(s) of watering for crops: 4:55 pm
Changes to crops: None
Narrative: I removed the cardboard that I covered the peas with yesterday, as I noticed it was introducing a tiny amount of mold into the soil. I removed it immediately, will observe tomorrow as well. Two of the cucumber plants have yellowing leaves and one has a stalk that does not look particularly healthy. There are also three tomato plants that are drooping more than I would like. I just heard back from an ecology expert, and I will attempt to let the soil on both dry out and see if that improves the plants.
Harvest: No harvest today.
Support/supplies needed: None.
GreenHab Report – December 14th
Crew 288 GreenHab Report 14-12-2023
GreenHab Officer: Ryan DeAngelis
Environmental control: Heater on automatically. Turned fan on from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm today to reduce high temperatures (99 degrees according to the guage at one point). Door was kept closed.
Average temperatures: 99 peak, but dropped down to 75 after fan was kept going.
Hours of supplemental light: 10 pm to 2 am (four hours).
Daily water usage for crops: 3 gallons
Daily water usage for research and/or other purposes: None
Water in Blue Tank (200 gallon capacity): __3_ gallons
Time(s) of watering for crops: 5:00 pm (watered later due to attempt to dry out soil on cucumbers and tomato plants.
Changes to crops: Harvested half a bed of baby kale, some parsely, cilantro, and arugula.
Narrative: I walked into the GreenHab at approximately 11 am, and noticed that it was extremely hot due to it being a very warm day. I turned the fan on to cool it down. I harvested parsley at around 11:30 am. I returned around 5 pm to water the plants, turn off the fan, and harvested a lot of kale, some arugula, as well as some cilantro. Planning to check on the plants one more time this evening before going to bed.
Harvest: Kale: 103 grams, Parsely: 8 grams, Arugula: 8 grams, Cilantro: 7 grams. Total: 126 grams.
Support/supplies needed: Same cucumber plants and tomatoes not doing that well, continuing to discuss with ecology expert and observing (currently seeing if drying out soil is helping).
